LEGO Technic Ball Joints & Tow Balls

Build stronger moving connections with LEGO® Technic ball joints, tow balls and socket elements. These pin-and-axle-compatible articulation parts are designed for steering systems, suspension, mechs, robots and other Technic builds that need controlled movement under structural load.

Unlike smaller Mixel-style ball joints, which are suited to stud-based and character-scale builds, Technic ball joints are designed to integrate with beams, liftarms, pins and axles. For the wider mechanical parts range, explore our LEGO® Technic parts collection.

LEGO® Technic Ball Joints & Tow Balls

Technic ball joints allow a connection to move through multiple angles while remaining securely attached to a mechanical structure. Towball pins, sockets and related connectors are commonly used where a fixed pin or axle connection would not provide enough range of motion.

  • Steering Systems: Use towball pins and socket connectors in steering links, tie rods and other movable vehicle mechanisms.
  • Suspension Builds: Create articulated control arms, linkages and moving suspension sections.
  • Mechs & Robots: Build stronger poseable joints for limbs, frames and mechanical assemblies.
  • Custom Technic Structures: Add controlled movement to angled, pivoting or articulated sections.

Towball Pins, Sockets & Connectors

LEGO® Technic towball parts provide a compact ball-and-socket connection that works within pin-and-axle based builds. These elements are useful when a mechanism needs both freedom of movement and a stronger structural connection than a small stud-based joint.

They can be combined with Technic beams and liftarms, Technic pins and connectors and LEGO® axles to create steering, suspension and articulated mechanical systems.

Technic Ball Joints for Steering & Suspension

Vehicle builds are one of the most common uses for Technic ball joints and tow balls. Their ability to move through an angle while remaining connected makes them useful in steering linkages, suspension assemblies and moving axle setups.

  • Steering Links: Connect movable steering sections while allowing controlled angular movement.
  • Suspension Arms: Create articulated joints between chassis sections and moving wheel assemblies.
  • Axle Connections: Support mechanical layouts where fixed straight connections would restrict movement.

Technic Ball Joints vs Mixel Joints

Both systems use ball-and-socket articulation, but they are designed for different types of builds.

  • Technic Ball Joints: Pin-and-axle compatible parts for structural, mechanical and load-bearing articulation.
  • Mixel Joints: Smaller stud-based articulation parts for creatures, compact robots and character-scale builds.

If you are building with beams, liftarms, axles and Technic connectors, this collection is usually the better choice. For smaller brick-and-plate builds, browse our LEGO® Mixel joints and articulation.
